About Trevor
Trevor R. Nelson is a Ph.D. student at the Eastman School of Music—University of Rochester, where he holds a Sproull Distinguished fellowship. He has a BM in instrumental music education from Appalachian State University, as well as an MA in historical musicology and a graduate certificate in Women’s & Gender Studies from Michigan State University.
Trevor’s research focuses on opera and British national identity at the twilight of the empire, and he has presented at regional, national, and international conferences. His study of opera in colonial Bombay won the T. Temple Tuttle prize from SEM Niagara. Secondary research interests include queer humor (especially parody), women’s suffrage song, and musical responses to trauma.
Trevor is an engaged, passionate teacher, and has won pedagogy awards from ASU, MSU, and ESM. He serves on the advisory board for MusicTheoryExamplesByWomen.Com, works as a consultant at the Eastman Writing Center, and is the current president of the Eastman Graduate Musicology Association.
